Does Environment Secretary really believe that birds are partly to blame for pollution of our rivers and oceans?

Are curlews, redshanks and other waterbirds guilty of polluting water? The Government minister (front) seems to believe so

COULD wetland birds be culprits in polluting British water courses, estuaries and the sea?

This theory has been attributed to the Environment Agency by Thérèse Coffey MP  - who is Environment Secretary - in a bizarre announcement on her website.

This is what it states:

"Thérèse has been at Martlesham Creek this morning, meeting the constituent who has recently been sampling water and has raised concerns about water quality and potential e-coli.

"She asked senior staff from Anglian Water and the Environment Agency to join her as well as East Suffolk councillor Chris Blundell.

"Thérèse said: 'It was a good opportunity to see the situation first-hand.

" 'The Environment Agency explained that pollution will not only be coming from humans, but from agriculture and wildlife - especially wild birds that feed on the mudflats."
