TEENAGE BIRDER GEORGIA SPEAKS OUT AGAINST CONTENTIOUS SPURN VISITOR CENTRE SCHEME

'THIS PROPOSAL DEEPLY CONCERNS ME'

Georgia Locock - concern for integrity of 'fragile' habitat
STAFFORDSHIRE  Georgia Locock is possibly the only young person among the hundreds who  have commented on the Spurn visitor centre proposal.

The 18-year-old from Lichfield, is opposed to the controversial Yorkshire Wildlife Trust scheme.

In a letter to East Riding planning department, she says: "As a young birder, the times I have spent at Spurn have had profound impacts on my passion, and, as a result, this proposal deeply concerns me.

"The proposed location is an extremely fragile area and is prone to flooding which has had
terrible consequences in the past.

"Surely a wildlife organisation should be working to preserve this delicate area that has irreplaceable biodiversity benefits.

The YWT's argument against this is that it will be beneficial to visitors.

"As much as it is important for the trust to be ensuring visitor safety and enjoyment, there are other ways that they could do this  without such a damaging impact. "

  1. As the, objectors do not put their age, unless we know them personally we do not know how many are young, but I can tell you that there is a considerable age range with many young objectors.
