RSPB aims to boost numbers of Capercaillie and Black Grouse with purchase of land next to its Abernethy reserve

RSPB Scotland has confirmed the acquisition of some 33 hectares of land adjacent to its Abernethy nature reserve - famed for being the home of Loch Garten which, in 1954, saw the return of breeding Ospreys to the UK for the first time in almost 40 years. The society says the extension will be grazed in such a way as to create habitat for two  species - Capercaillie and Black Grouse - which are struggling on the rest of the reserve. The amount paid for the land has not been disclosed.
