It is always a thrill to see a Wryneck in Britain, especially in spring when these passage migrants tend to be much scarcer than in late summer and early autumn. The bird above was feeding in a horse paddock at Tetney Lock, in Lincolnshire, mid-morning today. Just a few metres away, a female Ring Ouzel was also present while, on an overhead wire, a calling Cuckoo completed the trio of summer migrants.
