MP likes to think it's a redshank - but might some birders prefer an alternative identification?

IT is unlikely that many visitors to the constituency office of Boston and Skegness MP Matt Warman wish to discuss matters ornithological.

They cannot help, however, but be enchanted by an elegant carving which takes pride of place on one of the desks.

Although not a birder, Mr Warman is supportive of wildlife and is the RSPB's 'redshank champion' in parliament.

Indeed, he has assisted in wader-count initiatives at RSPB Frampton Marsh which is within his patch.

Is the carving a redshank - sometimes known as 'the sentinel of the marshes' - albeit in highly stylised version?

The MP likes to think so - and will continue to believe so until anyone comes up with an alternative ID.
