MORE THAN JUST A HIDE - THE NEW WADER- AND WILDFOWL- WATCHING TOWER AT SLIMBRIDGE

Luxury birding - the new tower at Slimbridge

A  new  birdwatching tower has been opened at the Gloucestershire HQ of the Wildfowl and wetlands Trust.

Ribbon-cutting honours at the Estuary Tower were done by naturalist and TV producer Mike Dilger.

Located  on the edge of the tidal reaches of the River Severn at Slimbridge, the tower features an integrated lift, providing access for all to magnificent vistas and the thousands of birds on the  tidal mudflats below.

The two-storey building has both an indoor first-floor platform and an open-air upper floor.

The project was funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund as part of a three-year programme entitled Slimbridge 2020, which will deliver eight new  wildlife experiences and activities.

These  exhibits will allow visitors to explore the world of wetlands, feel closer to nature and perhaps be inspired to take action to conserve wildlife for generations to come.
