Mr Warde spells out some home truths to NE |
A SUSSEX man has rapped the Natural England's emerging policy of allowing nature to be manipulated so that it does not 'get in the way' of commercial interests.
Simon Warde, of Bognor Regis, was dismayed to read of the organisation's 'bizarre' proposals for 'credits' to be sold to developers who destroy habitats - so much so that he wrote to the Sunday Telegraph (October 8, 2023) to protest.
"Creatures can't move house, and will be eliminated," he warns.
"Natural England's job should be to protect, conserve and enhance nature."
In the previous week's edition of the same newspaper, NE's chief executive, Marian Spain, had written: "For the past year, we have worked with the Government and councils on a mitigation scheme that helps developers offset damage by purchasing credits for environmental improvement projects such as wetlands."
