FARMERS who supply produce to M&S stores must be committed to the welfare of wildlife and the environment.

At today's annual meeting of the retailer, chairman Archie Norman insisted: "It is important to do right by Nature."

Of the company's 959 stores across the UK, 615 sell only food.

During the meeting, which covered a range of topics, there was a reference to the conflict in Ukraine.

On principle, M&S has ceased supplying to its former franchisee in Russia, thereby taking a significant financial hit.

Of its 10 stores in  Ukraine, six are continuing to trade despite the ongoing conflict.
