CONTRACTORS NAMED FOR REBUILD OF FAIR ISLE'S MUCH-MISSED OBSERVATORY

A GLASGOW-based firm of architects  has been awarded the contract to design a new observatory following the fire that destroyed the previous building in March this year.

Six firms tendered for the project, and representatives of three were invited for interview.

Last week observatory chiefs announced that ICA had been awarded the contract.

The firm, which has a staff of 60, specialises in hotel design - not just in Scotland and the rest of the UK but also internationally.

Providing support on the rebuild will be quantity surveyors NBM, structural engineers Will Rudd Davidson (Glasgow) Ltd and mechanical and electrical Engineers RYBKA.

The target date for completion is spring 2021.

Meanwhile, on the birding front, there was nothing special to report in November, the highlights being singles of waxwing, Iceland gull and Siberian chiffchaff.
