THE THERESA AND ZAC SHOW - KEY ENVIRONMENT ROLES FOR VILLIERS AND GOLDSMITH IN NEW BORIS JOHNSON GOVERNMENT

MEET the two newly-promoted politicians whose Government brief includes safeguarding the environment.

Theresa - MP for Chipping Barnet

Theresa Villiers (51) takes over as Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs while Zac Goldsmith (44) is her deputy.

Both Brexiteers, they have both accepted invitations to join his Government by new Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Ms Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet since 2005, has previous Government experience, having between Transport Minister between 2010 and 2012 and Northern Ireland Secretary between 2012 and 2016.

It will be the first ministerial position for Mr Goldsmith, long-serving MP for Richmond Park.

Zac - MP for Richmond Park

The former has no conspicuous record of speaking out on environmental issues (though she is opposed to fox-hunting), but her deputy has campaigned actively against an additional runway at Heathrow airport and against the trade, much of it illegal, in wild creatures.

Their predecessors respectively are Michael Gove, who has been promoted to Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, and Therese Coffey who remains in a slightly exalted position at the same department in  the Government.
