Boris Johnson -global catastrophe alert |
FORMER Foreign Secretary Boris
Johnson has warned that our children and grandchildren “will never forgive us”
if we continue to allow the decline of nature and wildlife .
He says: “We are witnessing an
acceleration tragedy, a reverse Noah’s Ark in which all other passengers are being pushed aboard by an exploding
human race.
"Since 1972, the planet is estimated
to have lost 58 per cent of its entire stock of mammals, birds, fish and
reptiles.
“We are brutally squeezing and crushing existing
populations,”
Mr Johnson’s comments come in his
weekly column in The Daily Telegraph.
He continues: ““we have to act now
to avert a great global catastrophe.”
“We must begin to tip the scales
back in favour of the natural world.
“There is scope for the UK to do much more - not least with a new marine
conservation area in the South Atlantic.
Adds the backbench MP for Uxbridge: “Where
possible, we should re-wild and introduce the species that have fled from their
homes.”
