THE CORONAVIRUS EMERGENCY: A STATEMENT FROM CUMBRIA WILDLIFE TRUST

THE following statement has been issued by Cumbria Wildlife Trust in response to the coronavirus situation.

Uncertainty around the full impact of coronavirus means this is a worrying time for all of us.

These are unprecedented times and we are aware that this will have a significant impact on many of you, our staff, volunteers and the people we work with.

We are taking urgent action in line with government guidance to make sure that we, and you, all stay safe.

As from now,we are cancelling all events, including volunteer conservation days, until the end of June.

We will keep the situation under review and will restart our events programme as soon as we are able.

The good news is that all of our nature reserves remain open (although unstaffed), so if you are able to get out to enjoy a walk and take in the best of the season’s wildlife please do so, but respect the guidance around social distancing.

Plumgarths office and gardens, Gosling Sike office, and the visitor cabin at South Walney will be closed to the public until further notice.

However, the garden and farm trail at Gosling Sike and South Walney Nature Reserve will remain open to visitors.

We are continuing to work hard on behalf of Cumbria's wildlife.

Many of our staff will now be working from home, although the conservation and nature reserves teams will still be out and about looking after our sites and undertaking conservation tasks.

We will be keeping our phone lines open for as long as we can. If you need to contact anyone in the Trust, emails will be picked up. Please bear with us if you do not receive a response straight away.

Despite coronavirus changing life as we know it, the days will soon be getting longer and the joys of spring are still happening outside.

Birds are singing, frogs are on the move and the early bumblebees are foraging.

If you are unable to get out and see it for yourself, we will bring as much of it as we can to you via our website, social media and e-newsletters.

Your support has never been more appreciated and we will do all we can to keep in touch, and lift the spirits by bringing you all the great stories of wildlife from around the county as we move through spring.

Best wishes,
From all of us at Cumbria Wildlife Trust
